Opening Ceremony of 29th Olympic Games, Beijing

Spectacular. Excellent opening ceremony of the 29th Olympic Games in Beijing, China. It was such a great idea to combine over 5,000 years of China’s history with modern fireworks. And the lighting of the Olympic cauldron with the Olympic flame was phenomenal. This was my favorite part. Congratulations Beijing. I think that this was the best opening ceremony so far.

The new build “Bird’s Nest” National Stadium contained 91,000 people, plus 10,500 athletes. I loved seeing the parade of a record 204 nations where teams paraded in order of the Mandarin alphabet with Greece being first since the first Olympic Games started in Greece and the host China team concluded the parade with over 1,100 members. The parade itself took about 2 hours. The whole extravaganza was about 4 hours.

It was just amazing to see all those nations gathered together at one place to have fun. Many World leaders from all over the World came to Beijing for the opening ceremony. Let the Games Begin. Over the next 16 days there will be over 4 billion TV viewers watching the games.

To put show like this it must have taken China years and lots of money. China invested about US$ 43 billion, mostly in its infrastructure building new stadiums, roads, etc. I have never seen show like this. Everything was just perfect, from the very start to the very end.

  1. I agree. It was beautiful… I loved the lighted suits and all that suspended-in-the-air stuff. Truly a global event!

  2. I don’t think if China gains or loses money, for them, hosting the games is a enough success.

  3. see the vídeos of the opening ceremony here
