Mount Everest, Himalayas, Nepal

Amazing experience. There are not enough words in all languages and all books combined to describe the feeling I experienced today when we flew over majestic mountains of Himalayas and seeing Mount Everest is just indescribable. Everest expedition was incredibly amazing today. We woke up around 5:00am and left to the airport to take Buddha Air jet to Himalayas and Mount Everest. The weather was pretty good. The flight was little delayed, but we didn’t mind. We met a couple from Sweden and a couple from Finland and they were also going to take the same flight. Coincidentally they live in Bangalore and work for Nokia. I found some Scandinavians that live in Bangalore.

Only 16 people could sit in the aircraft and everyone had its own window seat. Also, they allowed everyone to go to the cockpit and get even better view (the captain view). Luckily when it was my turn to go to the cockpit we were flying close to Mount Everest. I took some amazing pictures and videos and some of them are published on this blog. My dream came true today. To see Mount Everest was one of the top five things to see in my life, and today I had that opportunity. I felt like the guys in the movie “The Bucket List” with Jack Nicholson and Morgan Freeman. If you haven’t seen the movie, please rent it on DVD and see the movie. I love the movie. Anyway, today I didn’t climb the Mount Everest but I have indeed touched it with my heart. I almost cried because I was so happy to see Himalayas, and you really can’t describe how you feel, you just have to experience this on your own.

The Tibetan name of Mount Everest is Chomolungma or Qomolangma, which apparently means “Mother of the Universe” or “Goddess Mother of the Earth”. The name in Nepal is Sagarmatha, which means “Goddess of the Sky”. Mt. Everest is the highest mountain measured from the sea level; it rises about 8,848 meters or 29,029 feet; however, if measured from its base on the mid-ocean floor then Mountain Mauna Kea in Hawaii is the tallest; it rises over 10,200 meter or 6.3 miles, but if measured form the sea level it is only 4,200 meter or 13,796 feet. To climb the Mount Everest one must pay an expensive permit of about US$25,000 per person.

The flight itself took approximately an hour and we saw about 23 different mountains. Out of the 14 highest peaks in the World, 8 lie in Nepal, including the highest mountain: Mount Everest. Some of the mountains that we saw today included Shisha Pangma (8,013 meters), Holy Mountain (7,134 meters) – and nobody is allowed to climb this mountain – Cho-Oyo (8,201 meters), Makalu (8,463 meters) and many more. This was definitely one of the best mountain flights in the world. If you have the chance please don’t miss this experience. You have to make this flight.
